There needs to be tighter regulations on care home provisions in the country. The charges levied appear to be excessive considering the staff is mainly paid minimum wage. I know one cook whose budget for each resident was 84p per day for meals! My preferred option would have all of these brought under government control, with strict regulations on the level of care workers required per person, provision of food, and suitability of buildings. They are being left to get on with it just now, everything is being funneled toward the NHS. It seems to me that in many cases these care homes are being run for the profits they can generate and not necessarily for their intended aim, to provide a safe, warm, clean environment with a staff ratio that allows for personal care at the pace required, not timed care as is often the case.
